Master Sergeant Ernest A. Gallant II, Ret. USAF

Master Sergeant Ernest A. Gallant II, Ret., USAF, 77, of Old Town passed away Monday, June 19th, 2017. Ernie was born in Millinocket on May 16, 1940 and moved to Old Town in 1946. He graduated from Old Town High School in 1958 where he enjoyed playing football and basketball. After high school, Ernie joined the Air Force and spent 20 years in the service as a Retention Officer and as a Recruiter. He was stationed at bases in Maine, New Hampshire, Texas, California, Virginia, Hawaii and Thailand. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the Department of Labor as an Employment and Training Manager for 8 years. He then went on to work for the Maine Sunday Telegram as a Circulation Manager for Central Maine. Ernie volunteered his time over the years as the President of Little League in Caribou, ME and was involved with the Cub Scouts. He was also on the School Board in Old Town and volunteered his services at St. Joseph’s Hospital with Hospice. Ernie was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Ernie is predeceased by his parents Arlene and Ernest Gallant of Old Town. He is survived by his sister Mary Hatch and her husband Steve and his wife of 35+ years Elizabeth (LeClair) Gallant of Milford. He is also survived by his 7 children and 12 grandchildren; David Gallant and his son Seth. June and Stephen Gallant and their children Rebeckah and Nicolas. Lisa and Michael Gallant and their children Denise, Andre and Gabriel. Brian Gallant and his sons Scott, Bradley and Adam. His son Patrick Gallant. Sheila and Ernest Gallant III and their daughter Beth. His daughter Cindy Donovan and her husband Jason and their 2 sons, Garrett and Aaron.
A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Old Town.
