Richard Alan  Makahusz
BANGOR - Richard “Rick” Makahusz passed unexpectedly at a local Bangor hospital on the evening of June 19, 2017. His final moments were shared by many who adored him.

The son of Emil R. Makahusz and Bertha H. Hein, Rick was born April 16th, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio. Rick attended James Ford Rhodes High School. Upon completion he served his nation during the Korean War as an airman.

Following his service he undertook a career as a structural steel draftsman and continued in this capacity with Bangor Hydro Electric until retirement in 1992.

He was well known and respected by numerous Masonic Bodies including Anah Shriners.

His involvement included member, past master, and former treasurer of St. Andrew's Lodge #83 AF & AM of Bangor, Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Bangor, 32nd degree. He served as Grand Steward, Assistant Grand Lecturer for the Grand Lodge of Maine. Rick received the MSA and was created a Sovereign Grand Inspector General 33rd degree and honorary member of the Supreme Council in 2007. Rick also served as treasurer of the Bangor Masonic Foundation in the Valley of Bangor and in 2016 was awarded a 50 year service medal.

Rick is predeceased by his wife Shirley C.E. Makahusz in 1986.

He is survived by his life partner of many years, Mary Ellen Conner, with whom he shared countless pleasant memories of Bayside.

Three children survive Rick: Daral and Brenda Makahusz of Merrimack, New Hampshire, Lori and Peter Lee of Bangor, Maine and Gary Makahusz, also of Bangor. Grandchildren include Jennifer, Audrie, Darrick, and Zoey.

The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments 2 to 4 pm, Sunday, June 25th, 2017, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor.
