CARMEL – Lois B. Allen, 91, passed away May 15, 2017, at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 20, 1926, in Jay, the daughter of Walter H. and Elizabeth (Grant) Bryant.

Lois graduated from Jay High School, class of 1942. After high school, she attended cadet nursing school at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Portland and worked as a registered nurse for many years. Lois was a woman of strong faith. She placed her faith in Christ as her Savior when she was in her early teens. Lois and her husband, Richard were active in Bible-teaching churches all of their married lives. She loved her church family and praised the teens that cared for her and Richard so lovingly. Lois had people give her their prayer requests and faithfully prayed for them. She and Richard had the gift of hospitality and welcomed many people into their home. Lois will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, caring, and thoughtful woman. She made friends wherever she went: the grocery store, waiting rooms, nursing homes, Wal-Mart, and other places.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a brother, Charles Bryant; and a half-sister, Edith Oakes. Surviving, in addition to her husband of 70 years, Richard R. Allen, is a daughter, Kathryn (Allen) Heijermans and husband, Tim; 3 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Belanger; many nieces and nephews; and a very special niece, Sherry Cooper and husband, Tom and their 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
