Obituary for Gwendolyn Myrtle Trenholm (Gray)

Gwendolyn G. Trenholm
Hermon
Gwendolyn G. Trenholm, 85, is square dancing once again with her beloved Bruce. She passed peacefully into his arms, Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover, ME.

She was proud to say she was from Jacksonville, ME., always treasuring her down east roots. The daughter of Maxwell E. Gray and Grace (Dowling) Gray Pendleton, the family settled at Hermon Corner in 1944 where Gwen spent the remainder of her life. She met the love of her life, C. Bruce Trenholm of Bangor, one night roller skating when a bearing failed in her skate and she landed in his arms. They were married in 1950 and raised one daughter, Priscilla Frenette, now of Bowerbank, ME.

Gwen and Bruce enjoyed many years square dancing and calling across New England and the Maritimes where they made many friends. Charter members of square dance clubs, Swinging Hicks and Chicks in Hermon and Spud Spinners of Glenburn, to name a few. Gwen was a life time member of the Order of Eastern Star in Hermon. She was active in the 4-H and a Girl Scout Leader for many years. They enjoyed Maine’s outdoor activities as well, fishing from Chesuncook Lake to any unknown pond or brook. Many summer weekends were spent camping at the lot on Pushaw Lake with square dancing friends and Saturday nights you could count on beans, hot dogs, homemade bread and lots of card games.

Gwen worked as a seamstress at EMMC, then at several Bangor area grocery stores before retiring from the Civil Service at Dow AFB’s old commissary on Maine Ave.

In addition to her parents and husband Bruce, Gwen was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Kay Collins of Brewer and many treasured family members and friends.

Gwen is survived by her daughter, Priscilla and her friend, David Black of Bowerbank, as well as a brother, Kenneth H. Gray of Hermon and one sister, T. Charlene Norman of Jayess, MS; one grandson, Robert J. Dow and his wife Jamie and their children, Kaitlyn and Cameron, all of Bangor; nieces, Cindy Little and her husband Roy of Carmel and their children, Nancy DeLong and her husband, Brent of Bangor and their children, Glenda Boyd and husband, Mike of Jayess, MS., Mary Etta Vanidestine and her husband, Ed of Holden and their children. Special friends, Blake and Delores Thibodeau of Dedham and Franny and Virginia Boudreau of Clinton.

Gwen chose not to have a funeral service, but the family will hold a private graveside service at a later date.
Those who wish may make a donation in her name to the Breast and Osteoporosis Center, C/O EMHS Foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME. 04402-0931; or to the Maine Veteran’s Home, 44 Hogan Rd., Bangor, ME. 04401.
