Obituary for Stephen Wayne Carter

Glenburn – Stephen W. Carter, 69, husband of Lois (Fitz) Carter, passed away April 11, 2017. He was born in Blue Hill, June 8, 1947, the youngest son of Franklin and Ruth (Shaw) Carter.

Steve was a 1965 graduate of George Stevens Academy, Blue Hill, and a 1967 graduate of SMVTI, South Portland. He worked at several Ford dealerships, and retired after over 25 years at the University of Maine, Orono, Motor Pool. Steve and his wife, Lois, owned and operated Carter’s Garage and Used Cars for over 30 years.

He collected Mustangs which were his favorite. “GM was where I made my money, keep making them and us Ford people will all benefit money wise.” Steve enjoyed watching NASCAR, hunting, fishing, and took great pride in his garden.

In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by two brothers, Franklin Jr., and David.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Lois, of almost 32 years, are four children, Kimberly Paul, of Newport, Stacey Forgie and husband, David, of Henrico, VA, Erica Dupuis and husband, Josh, of Carmel, and Jessica Poole of Orrington; eleven grandchildren, Samuel Carter, Heather Owens, Michael Carter, Heidi Owens, Kelsi Christopher, Sara Rollerson, and Brandon Smith; And Papa’s “Rugrats", Harley Walton, Kaydence Walton, Taylor Grant and Blayne Spratt; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Carter and Suzanne Fitz; nieces and nephews; very special friends, Sy Leach, Dennis Frost, Mark Noyes, Garrett Martin, Trisha Smith, Milton Knowles, Jr., Brian Frost, Ed Small, Paul Turner, Duane & Jessica Walton, Wendell Stadig, Bob Bemis, Gerry Hayman, John Thibodeau, and Jeff & Mary Ann Pinkerton and Family.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Dr. William Wood, Cancer Care of Maine, and St. Joseph HomeCare Hospice staff members, Lynn, Priscilla, and Kevin.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Stephens’s life will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Private interment will be in Birch Grove Cemetery, Glenburn
