Obituary for Thelma Delia Griffin (Wilcox)

Levant and Bangor – Thelma D. Griffin, wife of the late Raymond “Jim” Griffin Sr., passed on to be with her Lord March 25, 2017. She was born March 2, 1934, in Perham, the daughter of Ralph and Ruth (Harris) Wilcox.

Thelma grew up in Bangor and Hermon. She went to Hermon High School and continued her education at Bangor High. Thelma worked at Sears Roebuck, EMMC for nine years, owned and operated Bangor Diet Center, and retired from the American Red Cross in 1995. She was a charter member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, since 1994, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. Thelma also volunteered at the Pregnancy Crisis Center in Bangor for several years.

In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was predeceased by son, Anthony “Tony” Wilcox in 1980; and siblings Gordon, Wilma and Jeanette.
She is survived by step daughter Rita;

Son Lewis “Spid” and wife Cindy Wilson. “Spid, you were my faithful right arm for many years at the farm. I Love You!”

Son Gary and wife Laurel Wilson. “Gary, you always made me work as a ‘Mother’ which taught me strength and courage. Thanks, I Love You!”

Son James and wife Abigail Griffin. “James, ‘my piano player’. You always bring me to tears of joy and pride even when you were practicing at age 9. God bless you! I love you!”

Son Alfred and wife Sheila Griffin. “Al, many times you kept me from going off the deep end. Only you, I, and God will ever know why. I love you so much!” Thelma is also survived by 18 grandkids and 25 great grandkids. She was a very caring and loving mother and grandmother.

Thelma wrote most of this and the special notes to her sons.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Westgate Center for Rehabilitation and Alzheimer's Care for all the loving care they provided for the past few years.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 2017, at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1195 Stetson Road, Exeter. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of the service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the church, after the service.
