Frank P. “Sid” McAvoy, 63, passed away September 21, 2016, at his residence in Bangor. He was born November 4, 1952, in Hudson, ME, the son of the late Frank E. and Elva (Bubier) McAvoy.

Sid graduated from John Bapst Memorial High School and then went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Medical Lab Technology at Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. He spent over 30 years working in the medical lab setting, spending 25 years of his career at Affiliated Laboratories in Bangor. Sid enjoyed geology, frequently referring to himself as a “Rock Hound”, amassing a large collection of rocks over the years. He also enjoyed making his own jewelry, spending time as a photographer shooting and developing his own photos, and had a passion for music, especially playing his guitar and listening to Neil Young. Sid will be dearly missed for his special sense of humor and quick wit.

Sid is survived by daughters, Mallory Bernat and Heather Theriault; sons, Seth McAvoy and Patrick Theriault; sisters, Susan Leary and Mary Wisham; brother, John McAvoy; and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, Sid is predeceased by two special friends, Betty Ann O’Connell and Roland “Buster” Burgoyne.

The family invites relatives and friends to share in a gathering of remembrance with conversation and refreshments 5-7 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2016, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor.
