CORINTH, - Janice T. Caverly, 78 of Corinth, Maine, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, after a brief stay at a local Bangor hospital. Jan leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Irvin “Buzz” Caverly; two daughters, Cathy Caverly of Corinth, Tammy Foss and her husband Joe of Lagrange; grandchildren Ashleigh Randall and her husband Nicholas of West Bath, Jessica Hall and her husband Ray of Corinth, Kris Foss and his girlfriend Monica of Charleston, and Brandon Foss and his wife Nicole of Brewer; five great grandchildren, Jacob and Rylee Hall, Addyson and Alayna Randall and Kyleigh Foss; as well as many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her brothers, Alton Thompson of Ketchikan, Alaska and his wife Ruby, and Tim Thompson of Windsor and his wife Sharon. She is survived by her brother-in-laws Stephen L. Caverly and his wife Arlene of Corinth, and Timothy P. Caverly and his wife Susan of Millinocket, as well as many very special friends, including Louise Giles of Corinth, Dorothy Marsh of Corinth, Marlene LeClair of NY, Dorothy Warren and her daughter Bev of Bangor, and Gary and Gail Trask of Otis who were all very close and gracious to Jan for many years. Sharon Creighton of Etna was most helpful to Jan in recent weeks and the family is very appreciative. Pastor Stan Griffin, Associate Pastor Mark Arnold, and the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Exeter will always be remembered by family members for the special support that they provided to her. The family also wants to thank the ICU/CCU staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor for the care they provided to both Jan and the family. Jan was predeceased by her parents, Maurice and Glenys Thompson and six siblings, Clara Cummings and her husband Paul, Lorraine Graves and her husband Tom, Galen Thompson, Ruth Jipson and her husband Orris, Julia Thompson and Donald Thompson; as well as her beloved in-laws Pauline and Irvin Caverly.
Jan was born in Howland, ME on January 25th, 1938, the daughter of Maurice Thompson and Glenys Myrick Thompson. Jan met Buzz at Cold Stream Pond in Enfield in 1961 and they married on June 16th, 1963. They immediately moved to their assigned duty station deep in the interior of Baxter State Park. From day one Jan and her ranger husband worked as a team in maintaining Park facilities, trails and public relations. For thirty-four years of their marriage, Jan accomplished her work with expertise from field operations to park headquarters. She served as a reservations clerk and in 1977 she was promoted to Reservations Supervisor, providing extraordinary public service. Although office hours were from 8 AM – 5 PM, if people arrived before or after she would rarely turn them away, always trying to accommodate their requests. She was well respected, accommodating and most dedicated to her job, her family and those she worked with. She was most honored and humbled when she was pictured with Governor Percival P. Baxter at Katahdin Stream Campground in Baxter State Park in 1964. She will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as mild mannered, gracious, and extremely dedicated to her family. Anyone who was familiar with her, would know better than to be negative about her husband or kids, as they might get “that Jan look” and the wrath that could follow. This look only got worse as grandkids and great grandkids were added to the family.
A funeral service will be held 1pm Saturday, August 27, 22016 at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, Maine with Pastor Stan Griffin officiating. Interment will be in the family lot in the Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth.
