Obituary for John Charles McPeek

John Charles  McPeek
Bangor – John Charles McPeek, 63, passed away suddenly Friday, June 24, 2016. He was born August 9, 1952, in Bangor, the son of Lloyd and Margaret (Smith) McPeek.

Growing up, John and his family enjoyed life on the Gardner Road in Orono. He attended Orono schools and graduated from Bangor High School. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine in 2009, majoring in German, with a minor in Botany, qualifying for the Dean’s List on several occasions. While a student at UMaine, John enjoyed working at the Herbarium. He was a member of the Josselyn Botanical Society of Maine for many years.

John’s friends and family remember his kindness, thoughtfulness, loving spirit and his ability to live in the moment. He could often be found hiking on the City Woods trails, as well as along the Maine coast.

John is survived by Paula Dietrich; her children, Michael Hunt and Christine Folla; 3 grandsons Asa, Dawson, and Gavin; sister, Jean McPeek; brother, David McPeek; niece, Lisa McPeek; several cousins; and family pets Oliver and Sophie.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Rev. Matthew McDonald, Church Minister, Kenduskeag Union Church, officiating.
