Obituary for Gloria E. Pickard

Gloria E.  Pickard
HERMON – Gloria M. Pickard passed away at Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on May 14, 2016, at the age of 90. She was born October 14, 1925, the oldest of six children of George Arthur and Melora (Haynes) McGinley. She was married for 63 years to Gerald C. Pickard.
Gloria graduated as class valedictorian from Hermon High School, and was the first of her family to ever attend college. She graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a degree in geology. She and Gerry raised their four children on the family farm on Pleasant Hill in Hermon. She was an excellent cook, avid reader, skilled seamstress, genealogist; past matron of the Eastern Star, and member of First Baptist Church of Bangor.
Gloria is survived by sons and daughter, G. Carl Pickard and wife Judith, Brian Pickard and wife, Mary, Sherrill Barrows and husband, Mark, and Neal Pickard; grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Jason, Sheila, Jeremy, Bryan, Marcia, Caitlin and Ian; two great-grandchildren, Kailynn and Addison; sister Patricia Goodspeed and husband, Robert, brother Douglas McGinley and wife Sylvia, and sister-in-law Rose McGinley.
Her family wishes to thank the staff at Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care of Gloria in the last years of her life.
A private graveside service will be held later this summer at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Gloria in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the First Baptist Church, 56 Center St., Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
