BANGOR: Richard Donald Davis aka "Rick" went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 12:45 AM at the Maine Veteran's Home after a long hard battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and Congestive Heart Failure. Rick was young at heart for his 80 years.
Rick was born in Bangor, ME on December 1, 1935 to Donald and Bernadette (Cyr) Davis. He was raised by his grandparents Hugh and Catherine Davis of Bangor on a 300 acre dairy farm (The Davis Farm). He milked many a cow and stacked tons of hay. He was very strong from all these years of activity. Rick attended John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor where he played football (#45) and in his junior year 1953, he was honorably selected and proudly received the Bangor Commercial Newspaper's "All Scholastic" Football Players Award.
While at John Bapst he was in the process of being recruited to play football for Notre Dame and/or Boston Colleges. But instead of following his dream he decided joining the service in 1954 would be his best choice at the time. He first served in the U.S. Army and after 4 years, he enlisted in the USAF from which he retired as Chief Master Sergeant in 1982. Rick served in the Vietnam War and other Far East countries. He was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska during the Good Friday earthquake. The highlights of his career were when he was selected as "Civil Engineer, Senior NCO of the Year" and later assigned for nearly 4 years to President Lyndon B. Johnson's military staff at Bergstrom AFB in Austin, TX.
Rick married Joyce Greene of Oglethorpe, GA in 1956 and they together had three beautiful children: Michael, Gina, and Victoria. After 2 decades the marriage ended and later on he married Barbara Jean Seymour of Brewer who preceded him in death. In 2013 he married Shirley Ann McGuiness of Grand Junction, CO. who survives.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; daughters Victoria L. Davis (Suwanee, GA), and Gina A. Bible and her husband Lindsey (Fountain Inn, SC); and son, Michael H. Davis and his wife Felicia (Peachtree Corners, GA; three sisters and their spouses: Anna Sprague(Frank) of Bangor, ME, Mary Nickerson (Rick) of Henderson, NV and Sally Ivers of Brewer, ME ; grandchildren: Shawn Davis, Jessica Davis, and Victoria Bible and two great¬ grandchildren: Nicolas Davis and Lily Bible-Pitts. He also leaves behind many step children and step grandchildren, whom he loved, from his previous and current marriages. Last but not least, his four legged furry boys who brought much love and joy into his life, Yogi Bear IV (Bichon) and Korki (Shi-Tzu) who will miss him terribly along with all his special treats.
Richard was a member of the Winterport Lions Club, The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the East Orrington Congregational Church.
The family sincerely thanks Heather (Hospice RN) for her dedication to Richard during his long illness and to the medical staff at the Maine Veteran's Home for their role in making him comfortable. Also, many thanks to Annette Emerson (MAS Home Care of Maine) for her tireless care and unconditional friendship.
