Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of William Zoidis can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for William Paul Zoidis

Bangor

Bill Zoidis, 85, died January 16, 2016 in Portland, ME. He was born December 14, 1930, in Bangor, the son of Paul and Dorothy (Hassis) Zoidis.

Bill managed the family-owned Pilots Grill restaurant for over 50 years, will long be remembered for greeting customers as his friends. He was very grateful for the hard work and dedication of the Pilots Grill staff over the years and will always credit them for its success.

Bill felt incredibly lucky to have lived his life in a great city like Bangor. He served on the Bangor Chamber of Commerce and Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau. Bill was also actively involved in the Maine Restaurant Association and his passion for the organization was evident. He was active in the National Restaurant Association, including serving as a National Director. Bill also served on the Executive Board of Eastern States Exposition. He also felt honored to have served in the Maine Air National Guard.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sally, his sisters-in-law, Katherine Zoidis, Kathy Arnold, and brother-in-law, Andy Gass. Surviving are his three children, Paulette Barter and her husband, Phil, Chris Zoidis and his wife, Nicole, and daughter, Lindsley Getchell ; grandchildren, great grandchildren; his brother Tom Zoidis, his cousin (his “other” brother) George Zafis; his sisters-in-law Velma Stewart and her husband Donald; Keneen Gass; brother-in-law, Eddie Arnold; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill and family are eternally grateful for the staff at Seventy-Five State Street Independent Living in Portland who gave such wonderful, compassionate care.

The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
