BANGOR - Frances Ann Michaud passed away peacefully on the evening of August 16, 2015 at a healthcare facility in Bangor, Maine. Franny was the youngest of nine children, the quiet one, born in Houlton, Maine on September 20, 1933 to Lucie “Lulu” Gendreau and Dennis Michaud.
Franny was predeceased by her brothers, Albert, Elmer and Leroy; as well as her sisters, Irene Sturgeon, Mabel Webber, Geneva Marin, Marie O’Connell; nephews Dennis Webber and Dennis Michaud and niece Gloria Hardgrove.
She was the first of their children to be born in a hospital. Franny graduated from Island Falls High School in 1951 and graduated from Husson University—known at that time as the Bangor School of Commerce. Franny was a dedicated bookkeeper for many years at Grants Dairy and The Bangor Public Library until her retirement in 2009.
Known lovingly by us all as Fanny, Franny, Aunt Franny, she lived a quiet, private, and spiritual life. Every Sunday she attended mass at the chapel at St. Joseph Hospital. She had several bibles, prayer cards and rosaries in her home. Being a single professional woman, Franny lived simply and was self-sufficient. She loved her family and was most proud of her French heritage. She kept meticulous records of her family history, cataloging every family event in photo albums and then years later creating Michaud Tribal Pages using WebTV that was available in the early days. She was a member of the Gendreau Family Reunion Group. Franny loved all animals especially her cats, Callie and Smokey. In later years, she most fondly remembered and enjoyed talking about her dog Buster and the adventures she had as a child when visiting her father in the summer at the various lumber camps he managed in Northern Maine.
Franny was a “no nonsense”, smart, clever, curious woman who was also a gifted seamstress, craftsperson and an excellent cook. She was an avid reader. In later years, she enjoyed weekend visits from her sister Rita when they would go shopping. What many don’t know about her is that after settling in Bangor to attend school and then later to work, she left for a period of time to return to her childhood home of Island Falls to care for her ailing parents.
Franny leaves behind her dear sister Rita Flint of Newcastle; a very special niece Denise O’Connell of Bangor who tended to her in later years; nieces Carol Flint Gay of Newcastle, Linda Soares of Belfast, Deborah Wheaton of Naples, Carolyn DeVita of Kent, Connecticut, Annette Stevens of Island Falls, Delma Emery, Lorraine Sweet, Priscilla Bard, Mary McKay, Carlene Corro all of Lincoln, and nephews Stephen O’Connell of Orono, Daniel O’Connell of Bangor, Kevin O’Connell of Hampden, Michael Webber of Belfast, Albert Marin, Donald Marin, Louis Michaud of Island Falls, Donnie Michaud and many grand nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 10am to 11am Friday, August 21, 2015 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, where a Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be held 11am Friday. The family invites everyone to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor immediately following the Funeral Liturgy Friday. The Rite of Committal will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Island Falls, following the reception Friday.
