Holden - Norman Earl Ferris Jr., 71, died Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at a Bangor hospital. He was born January 1, 1944, in Newport, the son of Norman and Gail (Stuart) Ferris. Known to his family as Mickey, Norman grew up in Newport, and also spent time in Brattleboro, Vermont, and Bar Harbor. He attended Brattleboro High School, and the Culinary Arts School in Providence, Rhode Island. Norman was employed at Pilots Grill Restaurant for 37 years, becoming head Chef in 1985. It was a position he held for 17 years. Norman created many of the signature dishes on the menu. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved being at his camp at Branch Lake. Mickey also enjoyed spending time at Punk Seavey's camp on Sebec Lake. Norman felt very fortunate to have been able to spend the last few years with his brother, Brent. He was a life member of the BPOE #244 Elks, Bangor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years, Beverly (Kittredge) Ferris, and his sister, Nancy Savage; close family friend Kathy Arnold. Norman is survived by his brother, Brent Ferris, of Holden; brother-in-law, Nelson Savage of Bangor; sister-in-law, Judy Hawkes; nephews, Jeff Savage of Bangor and Steve Ferris of Brownville; niece Kathy (Savage) Anderson of Bourne, Massachusetts; many cousins in Brattleboro, VT; special friends, Larry and Connie Seavey and family, Terry Duran and his wife Pam, Eddie Arnold, and Bill Zoidis and his family. A memorial reception to celebrate Norman’s life will be held, 2-4pm Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the Family Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Those who wish to remember Norman in a special way, may make gifts in his memory to the Bangor Humane Society 693 Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor, Maine 04401 or the Animal Orphanage P.O.
