Obituary for Shirley Sarah Turner (Fox)

Shirley Sarah Turner (Fox)
Eddington – Shirley Fox Orcutt Turner, 73, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at her home, with her loving family by her side. Shirley, the youngest of 5 children and the only one born in a hospital was born on August 27, 1941 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, the daughter of Allison and Florence (Wilson) Fox.

When Shirley was 3 years old she moved to Eddington with her family. She spent most of her youth working at one of the family’s 3 roadside stands, which were well-known locally for Fox’s fresh sweet corn. She graduated from Brewer High School, class of 1959. She married Jed Orcutt in 1961 and they built a home in Eddington, where they raised their two children, Jeff and Lori. She worked at Trans East Air at Bangor International Airport, AT&T at the Bangor Mall, U.S. Cellular in Bangor, and MBNA in Orono. She retired from MBNA in 2002. After a year she decided to rejoin the work force part time for L.L. Bean in Bangor. Shirley hosted many special events at their camp on Phillips Lake for family, friends, and co-workers. She especially enjoyed paddling around the lake in her paddle boat with friends and family. In 1988 she married James Turner, a locally known musician. She often commented that she had lots of music in her life. Her hobbies included writing poems, knitting … especially hats and mittens for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and reading, which she was taught by her father at age 3. She also loved to cook, many times being asked to bring her chocolate cream pie or pumpkin roll to family get-together's. In later years she enjoyed keeping in touch with friends on Facebook and playing games on the internet.

Shirley is survived by her husband, James Turner; son, Jeff Orcutt and wife Sharon, of Dedham, and their children, Kristina Orcutt and partner Edward Anthonis, and their children Caleb, and Wyatt, due in March, and Bryan Orcutt and partner Ashley Brown, and their daughter Mya; her daughter Lori Buehler and husband John of Levant, and their children Elise Buehler and Kahla Buehler, also of Levant. Shirley is also survived by 3 stepchildren, Jeanne Turner of Hampden, Jolene Nadeau and husband Alvin of Stetson and their daughter Michele, and her son Dylan, and John Turner of Gainesville, Florida, and his daughter Bethany. She is also survived by a sister, Wilda Naugler, of Brewer, and a sister-in-law Audrey Fox of Eddington; and several nieces and nephews. Shirley also leaves behind two best friends, Priscilla Delong of Brewer and Carmen Darkis of Bangor, as well as long time friends Carol and Ralph Russell, of Eddington. She will be greatly missed by Raskal, her constant companion and loving dog for the last 8 years. In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by brothers Gerald and Glen, and sister Ailene.

A memorial service will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, February 5 at the North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church, 31 Main Road in Eddington. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments downstairs immediately following the service. Those who wish to remember Shirley in a special way may make gifts in her memory to New Hope Hospice, Inc., P. O. Box 70, Eddington, ME, 04428-0070, or North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church, 31 Main Rd., Eddington, ME 04428.
