Brewer - Sandra Jean (Van Aken) Wheeler, 75, died unexpectedly, January 19, 2015. She was born June 3, 1939 in Bangor, the daughter of the late Clinton and Margaret (Hersey) Van Aken. Sandra attended Bangor High School, went to the University of Maine, where she met the love of her life Manch (Huggy Bear), and received her Master’s at Westfield State. She was a teacher at Prudence Crandle School for 17 years and worked at Dawson Bradford Real Estate for 20 years. Sandra was a long-standing member of the Veazie Congregational Church. She was an avid Black Bear fan and loved going to the Women’s basketball games. Sandra loved knitting scarves for her loved ones and feeding them her famous lemon poppy seed cake. She also enjoyed playing scrabble and playing cards with Manch. Sandra is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Manchester H. Wheeler; her sister and best friend Janice Tingley and her husband, Stan; her brother Clinton Van Aken; her two sons, Jay Wheeler and his wife Sharon, and Jeff Wheeler and his wife Cindy; daughter Stephanie Martin and her husband John; her six adored grandchildren, Gina, Sam, Zach, Chrysta, Alexa, and Dakota; and special friends, Jill and Mo. A memorial gathering to celebrate Sandra’s life will be held on Friday, January 23rd from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Services for family and close friends will be held on Saturday, January 24th at 11:00 a.m. at the Veazie Congregational Church. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrooksingsSmith.com
