Obituary for Robert S. Lynne

Robert S. Lynne, 83, passed away September 14, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. Robert was born in Bangor, April 14, 1931, the son of Stewart and Leona (Griffin) Lynne.
A Bangor native, Robert attended local schools until joining the State Guard, where he served for two years. Robert then went on to join the National Guard, where he stayed for another 5 ½ years. In 1957, Robert was drafted into US Army during the Korean War, and he and his young family moved to Alabama where he was stationed for another two years. During this stateside deployment, Robert was put in charge of the motor pool, where he put his talent with automotive engines to work.
Even as a youth, Robert was always interested in the way automotive engines worked. This led him to his long term employment as a transmission specialist with Darling’s, first on Oak Street in Bangor, and then at Downeast Toyota in Brewer. During these years, Robert also enjoyed playing baseball with his fellow employees and with the City of Bangor baseball team. In 1985, when he retired, Robert went to work for himself as a transmission specialist.
Robert was a very outgoing person. He was able to walk into a room and instantly become friends with whoever was there. He would offer advice on fixing any vehicle troubles a person was having, or offer a joke to brighten a person’s spirits. Robert was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a wonderful father, and very protective of both his wife and his two children. His sweet manner and great sense of humor will be greatly missed by his family.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by the love of his life, Lorraine (Call) Lynne, with whom he spent almost 43 wonderful years. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Lynne of Bangor; his son, Robert Lynne,Jr., also of Bangor; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private for the family. Interment will be at a later date in Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith .com.
