Obituary for Kelley Lee Abdelqader (Smith)
Kelley Lee AbdelQader, 51, ended a courageous 4 ½ year battle against ovarian cancer on September 10, 2014 surrounded by family. She was born in Bangor, February 5, 1963, the daughter of Eugene Smith and Judith (Elliot) Smith Pinkham.
Kelley attended Orrington schools until moving to Bangor in middle school where she finished out her high school years. She then went on to Husson College after graduation. Kelley, Director of Business Support Services, was a dedicated employee of Affiliated Healthcare Systems for 28 years.
Kelley had a wonderful spirit about her. She was stoic during her illness, never feeling sorry for herself and instead choosing to face her illness with bravery and dignity. She loved to laugh, sharing her great sense of humor with all who knew her. Kelley was fun to be around and was loved by many friends. Kelley’s passing is a major loss to the enduring sisterly bond of the “Smith Girls.” Kelley’s greatest achievement in life was her daughter, Alia, whom she loved beyond words. Alia was Kelley’s world and the love of her life.
Kelley was predeceased by her father, Eugene, who passed away in 1991, and her sister, Irene Smith, who passed away in 2006. She is survived by her husband, Saeed AbdelQader of Bangor; their daughter, Alia, also of Bangor; her mother, Judy (Elliott) Pinkham and her husband and Kelley’s stepfather, Ralph “Skip” Pinkham of Bangor; her sisters, Wendy Briggs and her husband, Don of Orrington, Susan Smith of Orrington, and Gena Hersey and her husband, Dale of Kenduskeag; and her very special nieces and nephew, Jessica and Heather Briggs, Taylor Smith, and Courtney and Christopher Hersey.
A funeral service celebrating Kelley’s life will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. Interment will be private for the family. Condolences may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
