Obituary for Clyde B. Robbins

BANGOR – It is with profound sadness that the family of Clyde “Bernie” Robbins announces his passing; he died peacefully with grace and dignity on Sunday, August 10, 2014. His last day was spent sharing time and love with those who meant the most to him – his family and close friends.

Bernie was born May 22, 1926 in Brewer, the son of Clyde M. Robbins and Dorothy (Pelletier) Robbins. He was married to the love of his life, Geraldine E. (Pickard) Robbins, who died in 2007 and with whom he is now reunited.

Thank you Judy Jones for your love and support and for being with us as Dad left this world – he knew you were there and was calmed by that knowledge.

Bernie is survived by his children, Jeffrey T. Robbins, Lynne M. Churchill and Brent M. Robbins; his two grandchildren, Kathleen E. Hogan and Ian T. Robbins. He was a devoted and loving man, and was blessed to meet his great-granddaughter, Pearl Madeline, who brought joy to him over the last year of his life and the first of hers. Bernie was a man proud of the life he created; his legacy lives on in his family.

Also surviving are his six sisters, Marilyn Blethen, Jeanne Hammond, Jacqueline Tower, Mary Jane Wedin, Dorothy Andrews, Anne Allen and his brother, J. Stephen Robbins and their spouses and his many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Bernie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, a proud radio/radar operator and aerial gunner on TBM Torpedo Bombers. He also spent thirty years working for the former New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1980. A member of St. John’s Episcopal Church for over fifty years, Bernie served God and his church in many varied roles. For all that he gave, he received far more in return.

His family wishes to give special thanks to the caregivers at Sylvia Ross Home; especially Ronnie-Jo Nevels, who grew to care for him and was his advocate during his time there. We also extend a special thanks to those at Ross Rehabilitation, who cared for him; especially Kurt Pike, CNA, who gave him love and support during his final visit.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5 to 7pm, Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A memorial service will be held 10am Thursday, August 14, 2014 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 225 French Street, with the Rev. Canon Mary Ann Taylor officiating. Interment will be immediately following in Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer where he joins Jeri. The family invites relatives and friends to join them immediately following the service for conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor.
