Obituary for Evelyn Joy Sedgwick (Wright)

Evelyn Joy Sedgwick, 90, passed away July 5, 2014. She was born May 14, 1924 in Bluefield, West Virginia, daughter of Harry and Lillian (Lowe) Wright.
She was one of four children, having a sister Lillian and two brothers, Albert and Robert, all predeceased her.
Joy graduated from Beaver High School in Bluefield, WV. Later she enrolled as a student in the Missionary Course of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, graduating in 1948. It was there that she met and later married Al Sedgwick.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bluefield in her youth and later in life a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer.
Joy was known as a loving outgoing Christian who had a heart for people. As a pastor’s wife, she was active in serving in Pioneer Girls, Vacation Bible School and other children’s and youth activities. For many years she sang in the choir. Joy started and taught a weekly Ladies Bible Class at Calvary Baptist Church and conducted ladies home Bible classes and counseling sessions.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Al Sedgwick of Holden; two sons, Kevin Sedgwick and his wife Sarah of Holden, Mark Sedgwick and his wife Shahira of Biloxi, MS.; four grandchildren, Angela Allen and her husband Craig of Brewer. Rebecca Sedgwick of Durham, N.C., Jacob Sedgwick of Bangor, and Matthew Sedgwick of Biloxi, MS.; three nephews, Harry Wright and his wife Barbara , Larry Bray and his wife Linda all of Bluefield, WV., and Jimmy Bray and his wife Joy of Roanoke, VA.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 5-7 pm. Monday July 7, 2014 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St. Brewer. Memorial services will be held 2 pm. Tuesday July 8, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church, State St. Brewer. The family invites folks to share conversation and refreshments in the fellowship hall of the church, following the service.
