Obituary for Ruth Helen Kennedy

KENDUSKEAG - Ruth Kennedy left this world on April 22, 2014. She was a life-long resident of Kenduskeag. Ruth was the youngest child of Walter and Hattie (Gordon) Smith, born at home on September 11, 1927.
She was married for over 65 years to Thomas Kennedy who passed away February 13, 2012. She leaves behind 4 children: Crystal Thibeau of Kenduskeag, Carol Kennedy and husband Richard Roberts of Gorham, Thomas “Tim” Kennedy and wife Jennifer of Kenduskeag; and Karen Kennedy of Foxborough, MA. She had 4 grandchildren: Barrett Thibeau, Jeannine (Thibeau) Reece, Sarah Roberts and Matthew Roberts, and 5 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, David “Pat” Smith and his wife Christine of Charleston, a sister Hope Thurston of California, 7 sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Shirley Smith and Clarence Smith. Ruth graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in 1945. She led a 4-H Club for many years, was active in local grange and was a member of Penobscot Pomona and the Maine State Grange. She and her husband operated the Triple-K-Takeout in Kenduskeag for 20 years.
A graveside service will be held 2pm Friday April 25, 2014 at the Kenduskeag Village Cemetery, where Ruth will be placed beside her husband, with the Rev. Ray Reece officiating. Those who wish to remember Ruth in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Activity Fund of the Maine Veterans’ Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, Maine 04401.
