Obituary for Frank Anthony McGillicuddy

Frank Anthony McGillicuddy
Frank McGillicuddy, 69, died at home on April 11, 2014 after a short but courageous battle with bile duct cancer. He was born April 23, 1944 the youngest child of Patrick and Esther Mary (Ryan) McGillicuddy in Dublin, Ireland.
Frank moved, with his family, from Dublin to London, England at the age of 8 and graduated Fairfax High School, class of ’59 in Essex, England at 15 years old. He worked for a bank and bartended part time in London. He emigrated to the United States at 18 years old and enlisted in the US Air Force. He had several postings in the states, then was assigned to Madrid, Spain for 2 years. He loved Madrid and easily learned the Spanish language which served him well later in life in his job and travels.
Frank was a police officer for 33 years. His career began in White Plains, NY where he worked for 2 years, then worked for the Amtrak Railroad Police for the next 18 years. After moving to Maine in 1988, he joined the Orono Police Department and retired after 13 years of service.
Frank met his wife, his Anam Cara, Eileen (Almenas) while working for Amtrak. They started dating in 1984 and in 1988 decided to have a change in lifestyle. They purchased their home in Levant and moved to Maine. They were married in the front parlor of their home in 1989 and were truly soul mates and the loves of each other’s lives.
Frank had the most wonderful sense of humor and loved to tell of his exploits as a police officer. He loved to travel and visited many interesting places in the US, Mexico, Canada and Europe as well as his home countries of Ireland and England. Quebec Carnavale was faithfully attended for the last 25 years. As an avid motorcyclist he had many exciting trips with his wife and Blue Knight family.
He was also a very loving and caring person especially to all his dogs, cats and all wild critters.
Frank was a great sports fan. He loved all sports and athletics, especially his soccer games from the UK. He had season tickets to the University of Maine hockey and football for many years. He loved going to the local high school basketball playoffs and followed the Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox as well as old NY favorites- Giants, Jets, Rangers and Yankees.
He loved the many organizations to which he belonged. He was a member of the Maine I Chapter of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Officers Motorcycle Club since 1994 where he served as Atlantic Conference President and Chapter President, Treasurer and Secretary for many years. Frank was just presented with his 20 year membership pin but will now be riding with his new chapter – Heaven I.
He was a dedicated Mason and served as Master of Compact Lodge #402 in NY in 1986 and then joined Rising Virtue Lodge #10 A.F. & A.M. of Bangor. He was a member of Anah Shriners where he first joined the Anah Highlanders as a drummer and then the Anah Mini-Bikes. He also belonged to other Masonic organizations – the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor Maine Consistory 32nd Degree, St John’s Commandery #3, Bangor Council #5, and Mt. Moriah. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Hammond St. Senior Club and the Indian Island Senior Club.
Frank was predeceased by his parents; sister, Marie Roberson; and brother, John McGillicuddy. He was also predeceased by some of the best dogs in the world: Buffy, Bentley, Schultz, Samantha, Chelsea and Jennie – “If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.”
He is survived by the love of his life- wife, Eileen and their special puppies, Shelby and Lyla; son, Patrick McGillicuddy and his sons, Michael and Connor; daughter, Laura Ducey and her daughter, Mariah;step-son, Sean Neptune and his children, Zachary, Natanis and Lexi; brother, Patrick and his wife, Alice; brother, Dermot and his partner, Sheila; sister, Ita and her husband, Harry Murray; brothers-in-law, Gilbert Roberson, Patrick and David Almenas; special nieces, Ann Zealander, Nancy McGillicuddy, Karen Summers, Helen Harris, and Neeburbunn Lewis; special nephew, Russell McGillicuddy and many other nieces and nephews; dear friends, Gerry White and Jay Durost, both of whom have been super supportive, and Mary Ann and Sara Lounsbury, who are Eileen’s support system; and special neighbors, Charlotte and Keith Crocker.
The family also wishes to thank Dr. Robert Verosloff and Terri Young, RN of the Bangor VA clinic for their kindness and dedication and also to the Bangor Area Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Eastern Maine.
